mas ele não quis e fugiu. eu disse-lhe que não era preciso ir-se embora, que eu não ia tirar fotografia nenhuma.

depois lá voltou. o amigo dele estava a filmá-lo com o telemóvel e eu perguntei, a sorrir:

- mas ele pode?

ao que o puto respondeu:

- sim, mas ele é meu amigo, e à senhora não a conheço.

eu acrescentei:

- tens toda a razão.

o amigo perguntou-me:

- posso tirar uma fotografia sua?

e, surpreendida, respondi-lhe que sim. mas era só um teste. o miúdo que fugira perguntou-me:

- porque é que queria tirar-nos uma fotografia?

- porque vocês estão tão bem-vestidos e giros!

- obrigado. – disse ele. – mas apagou-a?

- não cheguei a tirá-la.

o metro parou, e eles levantaram-se para sairem.

- e para a próxima vez pode não voltar a fazer isso, por favor? – pediu-me o miúdo que fugira.

- nunca mais volto a fazer. - respondi-lhe.

eles sairam na paragem de metro deles, e eu fiquei a ver as fotos que tinha tirado no parque.

alguém me disse:

- menina, eles estão todos atrás de si a tentar ver as fotos…

quando me virei ainda vi as 5 ou 6 cabeças pretas na janela, a rirem e a fugirem, e as gargalhadas deles misturaram-se com a minha.

my pictures are raw pictures. this is something my husband and i appreciate. my husband often takes pictures with those discardable cameras, not digital, and they are so dreamy, so... japanese. photoshop is of course a good thing, as all technology is a great thing, in my opinion, but we want the untouched moment to be captured, and sometimes the crappiest camera provides the most amazing natural shots.
also, we know shit about photography. i don't even like to zoom. but i think i will learn how to focus on a specific object, at least.
photography is an art with a lot to learn about, but we like it raw. you can call us lazy, we don't mind.

and have clothes to wear everyday. that's all i ever wanted. and a normal house and money to buy the things i need. that's not necessarily the case here. and what do we "really" need?
i think we need a warm and clean house with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, shower and toilet. every bathroom should have a bathtub. i think we need rain gear for the winter and swimming gear for the summer and sunglasses. i think we need a camera and internet. we need at least one long and happy love affair in life, and some good friends. of course we need a nice family when we're children and early teenagers. we need a job that pays for all the material things we need and is just that: a job. not slavery, not a 40 hour a week job. we don't need all the stupid 24/7 services. not so many, that's for sure. we need to look the best way possible or the way we feel most comfortable. so no teeth missing because we don't have money to pay the dentist, for instance.
we need a good chair to sit and a good bed to sleep. we need politicians to do they're job and governments and all authority to ultimately self destroy. we need a good holiday ever year and to travel a bit to get out of the hole and relate to the world a bit better. we need sun! we need food! we need information!

lisbon is very dreamy too. maybe because it's so sunny and that makes us so aware of everything. perhaps the more real things get with regards to the senses, the more dreamy they become. perhaps. lisbon looks simultaneously abandoned and inhabited. the buildings are old and falling apart, the street clocks stopped, the balconies have broken vases. people are tiny like they used to be centuries ago, dogs bark all day locked in balconies. if you meet friends of friends, they might treat you as if they've known you for 20 years, and politicians say even more redundant things than usual.

yeah, we're still friends. lately i had a good reminder of everything being but a dream, or a film, whatever, and the more real it gets the more you realize that reality is a dream. i mean in lisbon, where i was for the last 2 weeks, the sun shines and it's hot, so the senses are much more awake, things are much closer and palpable, lots of smells are available, and all kinds of noises are louder, and that's real, however it just seems so unreal, so peaceful and dreamlike.
and i saw this shitty film called "inception", everyone likes it a lot, and pasha and i thought "what a piece of crap", however it was a great reminder of the whole dream/film/illusion perception. it's about a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream.. and then the air-conditioning was so high in the cinema that i couldn't concentrate in the film, so i left the room to go and look for someone and ask them to switch off the air-co, and i really felt like i was in the film itself, and that i could do anything i wanted. if i wanted the air-co out, i would certainly find someone to turn it off, and i did, and they turned it off. i've been feeling like this is all my personal wonderland, or a computer game, one of those where you can decide where to go, you know? you can get into a library, or an old cinema, and find things there, you decide... i felt like lisbon was one of those, with lot's of places to discover and corners to turn, and the rest of life is that as well. always someone rings a bell, when you thing nothing else will happen, etc.
amazing. i'm still amazed about this wonderland we live in, and sure glad i hardly have to explain how i feel to you, cuz you understand it so easily and probably feel quite the same.

se eu e a minha prima cristina (ideia dela) conseguíssemos organizar uma festa de família como quando a nossa bizavó era viva e fazia anos, seria excelente.
mas estes foram acontecimentos de há mais de 30 anos, quando éramos miúdas. iríamos sentir a falta das tias e dos tios que já morreram, e do meu primo joão, irmão da cristina, que era tão lindo. em contrapartida, conheceríamos os filhos e as filhas dos nossos primos todos, e os namorados, as esposas, as novas conjunções.
a nossa família é gigante. eu e a cristina contámos ontem, apenas da nossa geração e só do nosso lado da família (o lado caetano), 14 primos e primas. estes são apenas os meus primos e primas da minha idade que ainda estão vivos e são bisnetos da minha bizavó.
quanto a mim e à cristina, não nos víamos há mais de 20 anos.

aqui, no jardim da biblioteca nacional, em lisboa ao campo pequeno, há pavoas que se pavoneiam, de crias atrás. não consigo distinguir entre as fêmeas e os machos. não é possível que sejam todos machos, senão não haveria crias. já há muito tempo que não pensava para mim própria "i´m happy". e "pensar para mim própria" não é uma redundância, é um pensamento consciente que "digo" em voz alta dentro da minha cabeça, para mim mesma, pois muitas vezes também "falo" com outras pessoas em pensamento, e chamo-lhes nomes, ou mando-lhes piropos, e até lhes digo "obrigada". este "i´m happy" é uma constatação que faço sempre que possível, oficialmente, na minha mente.

Hey dude, wanna meet for coffee or tea in lisbon to talk about metaphysics?

There's this cafe in lisbon where the writers and intellectuals of the early 20th century met and had a lot of conversations. They also smoked opium, most of them, but in the privacy of their homes or rented rooms.

And it was there that my favorite portuguese poet (fernando pessoa) met his other writer friends and intellectuals.

Pessoa had 4 main "heteronyms" (but actually it's believed that he had around 70! Yeah, insane!). Here's a couple of poems from my favorite heteronym (alvaro de campos, the futuristic one):

Ah, the freshness in the face of leaving a task undone!
To be remiss is to be positively out in the country!
What a refuge it is to be completely unreliable!
I can breathe easier now that the appointments are behind me.
I missed them all, through deliberate negligence,
Having waited for the urge to go, which I knew wouldn’t come.
I’m free, and against organized, clothed society.
I’m naked and plunge into the water of my imagination.
It’s too late to be at either of the two meetings where I should have been at the same time,
Deliberately at the same time...
No matter, I’ll stay here dreaming verses and smiling in italics.
This spectator aspect of life is so amusing!

Yeah, i saw "what the bleep...", i didn't like it. It's a poor documentary. There's no beauty in it, just some interesting facts.

Hi pumpkin,

I'm not doing so well again today. I guess i'm gonna go to the psychiatrist again. Maybe i will have to really do some kind of treatment about my impulsiveness (not with medicine, just talking or whatever), because i think it's getting worse again.

Today i got the reply from my boss's lawyer about the reply from my lawyer, and again my boss (xxxxxxx) came up with ridiculous attempts to show that my work was not good. I mean, how pathetic is it to go find emails from 2008 to show why he wants to fire me in 2010? Not very impressive, that's what my lawyer told me as well in his email to me about this.

Meantime, my lawyer still didn't receive permission to help me with subsidization from the state (or whatever instance gives the subsidization) so i told him that we must stop the procedure until the permission comes, because i simply cannot afford to pay him myself. If in the end i have to pay his help so far, it will be (my calculation) around 1000 euros already, so fuck that.

Yeah, "waking life" seems to be a love it or hate it kind of film, other people told me this before, that it was pretentious and with too much and too fast information, annoying, etc. But as i see it, it's all part of the message that life is just a dream, sunshine, and people either get it or not at all. The film is like a dream (and about a dream), thus with so much information and so fast given that you can never remember all of it, just like in dreams. This is absolutely one of the best and most beautiful films ever made. I think it's a magical film, and Linklater is genius.

Like i said, because dimensions is actually what my books are about (my 5 books are called "the dimension collection") and this is a subject so very much explored by me, i think that's one of the reasons why the film didn't impress me, and i actually found it boring. I felt like: yeah, i know this for such a long time already, so what's new? And yeah, being in the mood for a certain film at a certain time is definitely one major influence as to liking or disliking a film. But i didn't totally dislike it.

Of course technically "mr. noboy" is interesting, well made, well thought. But even that is pretty much the same as what they did with Amelie Poulain. The same kind of effects, only better explored. Anyway, i don't think i could watch it again, unless it plays on TV or something. And it's too long and repetitive. Yeah, i'm also repeating myself about it :/

I was wondering the other day about "a single man", so i think i will watch that one soonish, since you liked it. Did you watch "fish tank"? It's interesting.

I really liked "pulp". Like everyone who read it said already, it's totally different from all his other work, however it's also totally bukowski as we know him, from head to toe. Actually, it's not different from his fictional short stories, which are quite unpredictable and surreal as well. He's still one of my favorite writers ever. He has a lot of soul.

Oh, yah, about life, the universe and everything (one of my favorite books of all times, also), i think not to choose is choosing not to choose, unlike what mr. nobody says in the film about as long as you don't choose anything, everything is possible. I actually liked that concept, and it's kind of true as well, however i think not choosing is also a choice. It's impossible not to choose. On the other hand, like i guess i told you before, i think we never really choose anything at all.

...he left. I hate being a god damn Amsterdam hotel for friends and family of my Portuguese friends. It's not fair! I have a life, I'm not constantly on holiday, and I never did that to anyone in Portugal. I never once in 20 years asked anyone if a friend of mine from Holland could stay at someone's place in Portugal, unless at my brother's place, when I was there myself and brought someone along. And this particular guy... he has a serious pathology. He does not understand that we, other people who also live on this planet, are not interested in knowing in detail what he did the whole day, what he's going to do the next hours and days, how many years he has been an art teacher, and whatever else he will continuously talk about, hardly giving anyone else the space to say a word. This is scary, and I'm afraid there are quite some people like this around.

2000's revival

If we were all to suddenly live back in the eighties we would surely get nostalgic about the two thousands. There would be a two thousands revival, we would love the music charts from 2005, say how much better they used to be back in the future, compared to the gay pop and depressing underground music of the eighties. Back in the future, still in the nineties, underground music started being called alternative, which is of course so much better, isn’t it? And the brainless pop music of the two thousands, those totally meaningless lyrics… oh, man, those were the days!
In the eighties again, we would dress like back in the two thousands, which would be a bit confusing, because in the two thousands there was a fashion eighties revival… so you go figure it out.
And can you imagine how much we would miss the internet? We can no longer live without it. Someone would say “That actor from the Godfather, what’s his name?” and someone else would reply “Let’s google it!” and then realize “Shit! There’s no internet! How the hell are we going to find information now?”
Yeah, I guess they would have to go to a video club. Meet at a certain time at a certain place - and they would really have to be there on time, because there were no mobiles to ask “Where are you?” and reply “I’m on my way, I’ll be there in 10 minutes!” - and check the actors playing in The Godfather in the back of the video cassette.
And we would be nostalgic about the weather. Remember the climate changing days? All those freaked out winters and summers, when no one knew when spring would come or if there would be an autumn? Now, back in the eighties, everything is so boringly predictable.
